What Do I Do When I'm Out?
When you are out and
about wearing a cloth pad, all you need to do is take it off, fold and snap
it closed, and then store it in a bag, small purse, even a zip lock, and
rinse it out of throw it in your hamper when you get home. You can
also rinse it out if you like, while you are out, or others carry a small
bottle with their choice of stain solution and give the pad a few squirts
before putting them in their carrying bag. Like usual, it's a matter
of preference. But it's not nearly as scary as it would seem, it's
really quite easy.
How Should I Store My Cloth Pads?
So simple: Any way you like. You can have
a special drawer that you keep them all in, a laundry bag that holds them
when you aren't bleeding, or even hang them from strings in the ceiling
around your house as decoration, they are cute you know!
How Many Cloth Pads Should I Have Per Cycle?
It really depends on your flow. Some women
flow lightly through their entire period while others have a heavy flow.
Then there are some who start heavy and end light or vice versa. If
you have an average flow, it's good to say on average you could go through
about 3-5 pads per day. Multiply that by the average length of your
period and that will give you a general idea. It is good to have
different pad sizes and absorbencies as well to better suit your flow rates.
So you could do something like Mini Pads and Contoured Liners the first day
or so of your cycle and then when it begins to flow more heavily switch to
Vaj pad Regulars during the day and then Overnights while you are sleeping.
Then, toward the end of your cycle you can switch back to Mini's and
Circles.
Do Cloth Pads Smell?
Cloth menstrual pads are actually said to
decrease any smells dramatically as opposed to traditional disposable pads.
Because the pads are made from natural fibers, they are more able to breathe
and allow air to flow through the pad. And with an increased amount of
air flow you also get a decrease in any odors you would possibly deal with
during your period. Not only that, another cool thing about the
breathability of cloth menstrual pads, they help decrease the instances of
infections with many women.
Can I Use Cloth Pads As A Back-Up??
Absolutely. A lot of women use the lighter
flow rated pads, like Mini's or Contoured Liners, as back-up's when using
reusable inserts during their periods. This is perfectly fine and is a
popular method.
